This is a ready-to-use post-event feedback survey template: 12 questions covering satisfaction, content, logistics, and return intent. Swap the bracketed variables for your event, cut what you don't need, and send within 4 hours of the close. If you want the reasoning behind the structure, see the full event feedback survey guide — but if you just need the questions, they're below.

The Template (12 Questions)

  1. Overall: "How would you rate today's [Event Name] overall?" (1–7 scale) — Your headline satisfaction number. Keep it identical across events so you can track the trend.

  2. Content quality: "How relevant was the content to your work or role?" (1–7) — Relevance predicts return better than a generic "did you enjoy it."

  3. Content depth: "Was the content depth right for you?" (Too basic / Just right / Too advanced) — Flags whether you pitched to the wrong level for this audience. Keep it a three-option choice, not a scale; "too basic" and "too advanced" are different problems with opposite fixes, and a 1–7 scale would blur them together.

  4. Speaker / facilitator: "How would you rate the speaker(s) or facilitator(s)?" (1–7) — Decides who you invite back.

  5. Pacing: "Was the session length right?" (Too short / Just right / Too long) — Tells you whether to tighten or expand next time.

  6. Logistics: "How smooth were the logistics — registration, venue or tech, timing?" (1–7) — Separates an operations problem from a content problem.

  7. Best part: "What was the single most valuable part of today?" (open-ended) — The most important question in this template. It tells you what to double down on next event. If you cut it to keep the survey short, you're trading away the most useful data you'll collect for a marginally higher response rate.

  8. Improvement: "What would have made today better?" (open-ended) — Your change list for the next one.

  9. Next topic: "What topic would you most want us to cover at a future event?" (open-ended) — Builds your future agenda from actual demand.

  10. Return intent: "Would you attend another [Event Name] event?" (Definitely / Probably / Probably not / Definitely not) — The forward-looking health metric. Use the four-point scale with no neutral middle so respondents have to lean one way; a "maybe" option just hides your fence-sitters.

  11. Recommendation: "How likely are you to recommend [Event Name] to a colleague?" (0–10) — Your word-of-mouth signal. Keep it 0–10 so it stays comparable across events.

  12. Follow-up: "Would you like to be notified about future events?" (Yes / No) — Turns a feedback response into an opted-in invite for next time. Put this last, after the value questions, so it never crowds out the feedback you actually came for.

Use questions 1, 7, 8, 10, and 11 in every event survey — that's the minimal viable version when you're short on time or attention budget. Customize the rest based on what you actually need to learn this time.

For Virtual Events — Adjust These 3 Questions

  • Swap the logistics question (6) for: "How was the technical experience — audio, video, and platform?" (1–7)

  • Add: "Did you experience any technical issues? If yes, what?" (Yes / No, plus an optional open-end)

  • Add: "Would you prefer this event in-person, virtual, or hybrid in the future?" (choice)

Keep the rest of the template as is. For virtual events, place the survey link in the chat or on the closing slide so attendees can respond before they close the tab — that single placement change tends to lift virtual response rates more than anything you do to the questions themselves.

For Multi-Session Events — Add This

At the end of each session, add a quick two-question rating before attendees move on: "Rate this session: [Title]" (1–7) and "Your biggest takeaway from this session?" (open-end). Then run the full 12-question survey once, after the final session. Per-session ratings tell you which talks landed; the closing survey captures the event as a whole.

When to Send

  1. Within 4 hours of the event ending — ideally trigger the survey from the closing moment itself, while attendees are still in the room or on the platform.

  2. Use a subject line that names the time cost: "[Event Name] — We'd love 3 minutes of feedback." A specific, small commitment improves open rates.

  3. Send one reminder at 24 hours if your response rate is still under 30%. One reminder, not three.

Short on time? Start from a pre-built event feedback template instead of assembling the list yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What questions should a post-event feedback survey include?

A solid post-event feedback survey template has 12 questions: overall rating, content relevance and depth, speaker rating, pacing, logistics, most valuable part, what to improve, next-topic request, return intent, recommendation, and a follow-up opt-in. If you only have room for five, use overall rating, most valuable part, what to improve, return intent, and recommendation.

How many questions should a post-event survey have?

Aim for around 12, or roughly 3–4 minutes. That covers satisfaction, content, logistics, and return intent without fatiguing attendees. When you need it shorter, drop to the five core questions. For multi-session events, add a quick two-question rating after each session and run the full survey once after the final session.

When should you send a post-event feedback survey?

Within 4 hours of the event ending, ideally triggered from the closing itself while attendees are still engaged. Sentiment and response rates both drop with every hour that passes. Send a single reminder at the 24-hour mark only if your response rate is still below 30%.

How is a virtual event feedback survey template different?

Swap the in-person logistics question for a technical-experience rating covering audio, video, and platform, then add a question on whether attendees hit technical issues and one on their future format preference (in-person, virtual, or hybrid). Everything else in the standard template carries over unchanged.

What's the most important post-event survey question?

"What was the single most valuable part of today?" It tells you exactly what to repeat and expand at your next event — the thing your audience actually valued, in their own words. It's an open-ended question, so don't cut it to shorten the survey; it produces your highest-value data
