Always start with Qualitative (Discovery) to figure out what questions to ask. Then, use Quantitative (Validation) to verify that those answers apply to a large market.

Is Qualitative research expensive?

It can be time-consuming (conducting interviews), but it doesn't have to be expensive. You can often start with just 5-10 deep conversations to get actionable insights.

Can I combine both methods in one survey?

es. A "Hybrid Survey" is very effective. Use multiple-choice questions for the stats (Quant) and add 1-2 open-ended text box questions to capture the "Why" (Qual).
